On Student Leadership by Kristin Q.

I think we need to first understand the position of StuCo in the Upper School community. I would like to emphasize the importance of voter education and clearing up any misconceptions about the roles of StuCo members before we begin the election process or set a proposal in stone.

Although there have not been many female presidents in the past, we need to keep in mind that females had equal opportunity as males in running for president. The key phrase here is “equal opportunity.” I think there has always been equal opportunity/gender equality, so this kind of urgency for a sudden change of government system might feel a little forced upon our community. My thoughts are: take small steps first. See how subtle changes will improve our current system or harm it--try different things and bear with it for a while before we do anything too drastic.
